What it is
Keyward is a local macOS app for organizing API keys and infrastructure credentials in an encrypted vault. Its current build includes a searchable inventory, credential versions and details, app usage maps, and controlled copy and reveal. The wider workflow for adding and importing records, managing backups, and guiding rotations is still being built.
Why it exists
A saved key rarely tells the whole story. Teams also need to know which apps use it, where each copy lives, and what still depends on an older version. Keyward is being built to keep that context beside the credential, so replacing a key can become a repeatable process.
Who it's for
Developers and operators managing API keys and infrastructure credentials across apps and environments.
Standout features
See where a key is used
App maps connect credentials to the environments and places that use them. Shared values, broad scopes, and places holding older versions are flagged with a reason.
Keep context beside the key
Credentials carry versions and related details, with searchable names and notes. Secret details stay protected alongside the version they belong to.
Retrieve values deliberately
Copy and reveal follow configurable protections, and the audit log records those actions. The app includes automatic locking and timed clearing for copied and revealed values.
Build toward complete rotations
Guided rotation runs and connector updates are planned. The current build establishes the vault, inventory, and usage map those workflows will need.

What made it interesting to build
Keyward began with a practical gap: storing a secret does not explain where it is used or how to replace it. Development started with the local vault and inventory, then added search, usage maps, and deliberate access to values. The next stages build the editing, import, backup, and rotation workflows on that foundation.
